When I was in Bei Jing last December, I was shocked by how fluent the western people can speak mandarin. Without seeing, just by listening, sometimes I can't tell whether it is coming from a foreigner or local people. Now this guys is talking about "niubi". Wow, they have learned every Chinese vocabularies.

I have been there numerous times, but never took some good pictures. Though my friend is not a professional photographer, her excellent technique impresses me a lot. Slow market

The market is taking a rest after a somewhat strong session yesterday. I am holding most of my long positions.

Concern

One thing I don't like is the Dow leading the rebound, which usually won't be a powerful and long bull trend. But this could change if the semiconductors could play catch-up.

Biotech goes back on buy signal as now. plus we have networking, banking, airlines. Semiconductors and internets still lagging. Not perfect, but a good start.

Networking remains strong during the selloff. It becomes the new leader of the market.

Update on the fire

Today I went to supermarket to pick up some groceries. On the way home, the sky is so blue, except the sky above the small hill where my house is located. It is grey. At the gate, I got the latest update: mandatory evacuation removed, now voluntary evacuation.

Wild fire

I thought I could relax a little to get used to the U.S. time, but I could not. I did not go out at all until market closed, then I got notice that everybody gotta evacuate because of the wild fire in the neighborhood. The wild fire happened every year here at southern California, but this time it is so close. In a short time of period, I saw sedans, SUVs, pickups running on the small street that were loaded with bags, boxes, and cases. I got nervous, rush back to the house and started packing immediately. Suddenly I had the pictures rolling in my mind, which looked like from the Hollywood war movies. I felt what it may be like when people tried to flee away from the hometown during the war time. Suddenly I feel I am so lucky to live in a peaceful time and this little difficulty seems nothing.

Tech

The Nasdaq is leading the way down, no good. We still have lots of room on the downside, not oversold yet. Be cautious.

Market

The strength is in energy and basic material sectors, semiconductor is also strong; everything else should be avoided.
